COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
ENG 141 - ENGLISH LANGUAGE USAGE (3 CREDITS)
This is an introduction to the requirements of Grammar and also to various writing styles. It is expected to provide students with the desired skills for writing for all areas in communication studies.
ENG 142 - WRITING SKILLS (2 CREDITS)
This Grammar and Writing skills course will continue with a treatment of capitalization, punctuation, sentences concord and reported speech, for Grammar. In the case of writing skills component the course will evolve around type of discourse and levels of style.
ENG 241- ENGLISH LANGUAGE USAGE (2 CREDIT)
The course will involve an analysis on Common Grammatical Mistakes, in terms of sentence fragments, dangling modifiers, concord Agreement etc. and also Error Analysis.
ENG 242 - WRITING SKILLS (2 CREDITS)
Under writing skills introduction to Review Writing and business communication will be thoroughly treated. Also after areas like Literary Devices Critical appreciation, Summary Precis Writing and Comprehension and thinking skills will be explored.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
POL 151 – SOCIAL SCIENCES (POLITICAL SCIENCE) (2 CREDITS)
The Social Science component is expected to provide students with a broad knowledge of some aspects of the social sciences. The first part will treat select topics in Political Science in order to give them the basics of political systems, public policy and governance.
PHI 152 – SOCIAL SCIENCES (PHILOSOPHY) (2 CREDITS)
This social Science area will also cover the treatment of some aspects of philosophy as it relates to logic and reasoning. Students will be taken through logical fallacies in order to give them a firm grounding in logic.
IML 152 - INTRODUCTION TO MEDIA LAW (2 CREDITS)
This specialized area in law will concentrate on laws relating to the media and also look specifically, contempt at defamation, sedition and other laws. Laws which have an impact on media practice will also be treated in-depth to prepare media persons, especially journalists for practice and court reporting.
PSY 251 - SOCIAL SCIENCES (PSYCHOLOGY) (2 CREDITS)
This Psychology course will cover some basic elements of Psychology and then go into social Psychology as a branch of the subject. Areas like Persuasive Communication, Cognitive Dissonance among others.
SOC 252 - SOCIAL SCIENCES (SOCIOLOGY) (2 CREDITS)
The Sociology component of the Social Science courses will cover relevant concepts in sociology and Cultural Studies. Aspects of Social Structure the African and Ghanaian Culture will also be treated.
