The Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) was formally opened on Monday, 16th October 1959 by the then Minister of Information and Broadcasting to provide formal and professional training in Journalism and Public Relations to help in the socio-economic development of the country and the continent.
The Institute has had full accreditation for its Bachelor of Arts degree and diploma programmes in Communication Studies from the National Accreditation Board (NAB). The Institute has also been in affiliation with the University of Ghana to run the B.A. degree programme which started in the 2000/2001 academic year.
