Admissions

The Admissions Board shall be presented with a list of all candidates who satisfy all the requirements for admission.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
DIPLOMA PROGRAMME

  1. SSSCE/WASSSCE candidates must satisfy the following basic requirements:
  1. Passes in three core subjects, namely English Language, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science (for Science candidates) OR  English Language, Core Mathematics and Social Studies (for non-Science candidates).
  2. The grade for English Language should be Grade C or better for SSSCE candidates OR GradeB3 or better for WASSSCE candidates.
  3. Additionally, Science candidates shall be required to pass core Social Studies at least at Grade E (E8) and non-Science candidates shall also be required to pass Integrated Science at least at Grade E (E8). Elective subjects passes in three elective subjects shall also be required

Minimum Aggregate
In determining eligibility for admission, a candidate’s score in the three (3) core and three (3) Elective subjects shall not exceed aggregate 24.

  1. GCE Holders

Candidates must possess GCE ‘O’ Level with credits in five (5) subjects including English Language, Mathematics and a Science subject, plus two GCE ‘A’ Level passes and a pass in General Paper.

  1. Mature Candidates

Candidates must be 30 years old and above and must possess GCE ‘O’’ Level with credits in five (5) subjects including English Language, Mathematics and a Science subject.  They must also have had a minimum of FIVE (5) years professional working experience in a Communications, Public Relations, Advertising or Marketing.  Serving employees must show evidence of study leave and sponsorship. Mature candidates and communication-related personnel can ONLY apply for admission to the Diploma Programme. Applicants are expected to pass and entrance examination and an interview.

DEGREE PROGRAMME
GCE Candidates
GCE Advanced Level candidates will be admitted to Level 200 (Second Year) of the 4-year BA Degree Programme. A candidate must have obtained:

  1. A pass (at least Grade 6) in five subjects including English Language, Mathematics, a Science subject and an Arts subject in the Ordinary Level examination.
  2. Three passes, including at least one pass at Grade D or better, at the Advanced Level examination. In exceptional cases a candidate who has taken three A Level subjects at one and the same sitting and obtained two passes with at least Grade C in each subject may be considered.
  3.  A pass in General Paper.

SSSCE/WASSSCE Candidates
SSSCE/WASSSCE Level candidates shall be admitted to Level 100 (first year) of the 4-year BA Degree Programme.
A candidate must have obtained:

  1. Passes in Core English, Core Mathematics, Core Science, Core Social Studies and Three Elective subjects, with an aggregate score of 24 or better. In determining the aggregate, the grade in Core Social Studies shall be counted for applicants who did non-science programmes while the grade in Integrated Science shall be counted for those who did Science programme.
  2. The grade in English Language shall be Grade C or better for SSSCE candidates OR GradeB3 or better for WASSSCE candidates.
  3. A pass in the SSSCE/WASSSCE Certificate Examination is understood to mean a candidate’s performance at Grades ranging from A1 to E8.

Applicants are expected to pass an entrance examination and an interview

TOTAL STUDY PROGRAMME FOR THE B.A DEGREE
The Total Study Programme (TSP) shall be in accordance with the requirements of the University of Ghana, namely:
General University Requirements
Faculty of Social Studies/Arts Requirements
Core Courses in Communication Studies
Prescribed Electives in Communication Studies
Free Electives (Journalism or Public Relations)

FOREIGN STUDENTS
The Institute is committed to the training of students from all over the world and therefore encourages foreign applicants to apply for both degree and diploma programmes.
Such students may be admitted on the basis of qualifications from their home country, for which equivalence shall be determined by the institute.  Evidence of a good command of the English Language at the Ordinary Level of GCE or its equivalent is required. In addition, applicants are expected to pass an entrance examination.
