COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

PRJ 101 - PRINT JOURNALISM (2 CREDITS)
This course in writing specifically for the newspaper, magazines and the various sections of the print medium is aimed at providing the basic skills in writing news.

PRJ 102 - PRINT JOURNALISM (2 CREDITS)
The Print Journalism course will tackle feature writing and students will be taken through the theory and practice of producing feature articles on topical matters.  Other areas will involve research, types of introduction; writing the body, the ending among others.

PRJ 201 - PRINT JOURNALISM (2 CREDITS)
Editing and Design will be the component of Print Journalism which will be treated.  It will entail the various processes of newspaper publication including design and layout the art and editing of manuscripts for newspaper and magazines.

PRJ 202 - PRINT JOURNALISM (2 CREDITS)
Page planning will be the area of Journalism to be haunted in the last semester.  The topics to be treated will be Newsroom set up, Conventional Newspaper set up , Production Units, Terminologies among other specifically the subject will cover adverts space, views space, columns, picas, Reverse lines, etc and then Editing to encompass areas ranging from copy text, marking to headline. Writing styles and scaling of pictures.

PHJ 101– PHOTO-JOURNALISM (2 CREDITS)
This is a practical-oriented programme geared towards providing students with skills in using a camera to tell a story.  They will be taught about the camera, photography generally and be given lots of exercises in photojournalism.

BRD 111 - BROADCAST JOURNALISM (2 CREDITS)
The early part of the Broadcast Journalism provides the history of broadcasting, especially radio from the global perspective, to its growth and development in Ghana and West Africa (Two hour lectures per week).

BRD 112 - BROADCAST JOURNALISM (2 CREDITS)
This part of the course will cover writing for Radio and TV, Radio and TV programme production, and also Radio and TV presentation.  Some of the details will include types of leads for broadcast stories, the body of broadcast stories updating broadcast news stories, among others.

BRD 211 - BROADCAST JOURNALISM (2 CREDITS)
This course will encompass areas like interviewing for radio and TV and also techniques of shooting TV news and understanding TV style and characteristics of writing TV news.  Other areas will be TV newscast production, the process and roles.

BRD 212 - BROADCAST JOURNALISM (2 CREDITS)
This course will cover writing for radio and TV in terms of editing and specialised reporting in areas like Science Environment etc.  Other skills in production and presentation will be treated with students being given a lot of practical work to do.

PRL 121 - PUBLIC RELATIONS (2 CREDITS)
This is an entry introduction geared towards exposing students to the basics of the nature and role of public relations and the role of public relations in the society.

PRL 122 - PUBLIC RELATIONS (2 CREDITS)
This course examines the public relations process and functions and also explores fundamental issues such as the concept of publics and public opinion in public relations.

PRL 221 - PUBLIC RELATIONS (2 CREDITS)
This course unit deals with communication in Public Relations Issues, management PR crisis and community relations will also be treated.  Other areas to be examined will include sources of internal friction in PR practice in organizations and the managerial responsibilities of the PR practitioner.

PRL 222 - PUBLIC RELATIONS (2 CREDITS)
This course deals with the PR department and Public Relations in practice.  The students will also be taken through programming in Public Relations and special planned events; and also the PR consultancy or agency.  The other areas to be covered will be PR research and evaluation, case studies and ethics.

ADV 121 - ADVERTSING (2 CREDITS)
This course has as its objective the need to give students an insight into the nature and proves of advertising and to provide some perspectives on problems and procedures for the selection and evaluation of the media).

ADV 122 - ADVERTISING (2 CREDITS)
Advertising will entail nature principles and functions of advertising and the Advertising Process.  Aspects of Advertising Practice like copy writing and the Graphics of Advertising will also be treated.

ADV 221 - ADVERTISING (2 CREDITS)
Areas to be covered will encompass the Advertising agency and specifically components like all the departments in an agency and what those departments are expected to do and the roles and responsibilities in the various units.

ADV 232 - ADVERTISING (2 CREDITS)
The Advertising course will involve a thorough explanation of Copywriting, especially writing the copy, Visualisation and layout.  Other areas will be TV and Radio Commercials, Media Planning Control of Advertising and Advertising and Attitude change.

MKT 122 - MARKETING (2 CREDITS)
The Marketing course will cover an Overview, Underlying Philosophy of Marketing, Marketing Philosophies, Marketing as a Management Activity and Marketing Environment.  Other areas are Understanding Buyer Behaviour, and an Analysis of the Customer.

MKT 222 - MARKETING (2 CREDITS)
The Marketing course will deal with issues like factors which influence, buyer behaviour, Sales and Distribution Strategies and then Strategic Marketing Planning.  Other areas are the Analysis of Current Business Portfolio, Developing Growth Strategies and Plan Implementation and Control.  The annual Marketing Planning Process will be treated and also Customer Care as an area will also be taught.

CRM 131- COMMUNICATION RESEARCH METHODS (2 CREDITS)
This is designed to show students what social science and communication research and the basics concepts of research (Two lecture hours per week).

CRM 132 – COMMUNICATION RESEARCH METHODS (2 CREDITS)
Areas to be covered will include Research Applications, Preliminary concepts in Research, Probability, theory and Sampling.  The various levels of measurement will be considered including problems in measurement relating to validity and reliability.

CRM 231   - COMMUNICATION RESEARCH METHODS (2 CREDITS)
This Research Methods class will deal with practical issues like the Planning and Executing Research Projects, Data collection Methods, with some in-depth treatment of Qualitative and Quantitative Research.

CRM 232 - COMMUNICATION RESEARCH METHODS (2 CREDITS)
The course will cover the basic data gathering instrument, the questionnaire and questionnaire construction, Basic statistical concepts, Data Presentation and also Data Analysis and Interpretation.  There will also be the treatment of Report Writing and Presentation f Results, Formats and Styles .  Students will be given some explanations on documentation as an aspect of research especially References and Biography.

MCO 131 - MASS COMMUNICATION (2 CREDITS)
Mass Communication offers students the opportunity to understand the types and definitions of the nature and process of communication.  It also deals with some theories of communication.

MCO 132 - MASS COMMUNICATION (2 CREDITS)
The course will also look at comparative Media systems in terms of the various press theories and new concepts in press theory.  Other issues one Communication and Development, channels of Development Communication and International Communications

MCO 231 - MASS COMMUNICATION (2 CREDITS)
This course will introduce some theoretical issues in Mass Communication ranging from Ethics and Ethical Codes for Public Relations Advertising and Journalism.  Areas like objective Journalism, Production of News and Precision Journalism will also be treated.

MCO 232 - MASS COMMUNICATION (2 CREDITS)
This Mass Communication course will cover areas like Public Opinion, Propaganda, Classification of Media Systems, the African Media and also New Communication Technology and Behaviour Change communication.
